C. Richard (Rick) Gordon is the technical director for SMI. He has more than 50 years’ experience in the steel and wire industries. Rick previously worked at Gerdau Long Steel North America’s Beaumont, Texas and Perth Amboy, New Jersey steel mills as technical service metallurgist. He also worked with the National Standard Company managing groups in the areas of R&D, quality, and process technology for carbon steel and stainless-steel wire products. He is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology with master’s and B.S. degrees in metallurgical and materials engineering. Rick is available to help SMI members and non-members with metallurgical challenges such as fatigue life, corrosion, material and process-related problems. He is also available to help manage and oversee processes related to failure analysis.
