Spring Fundamentals 101
This video class is available to all visitors to the SMI website. Hold your cursor over the SERVICES tab above and choose "Spring Fundamentals 101" and it will take you to the video link. The class, instructed by SMI technical advisor Gary Van Buren, is approximately 25 minutes long.
The Spring Manufacturers Institute has developed a number of benchmarking surveys over the years, the results of which assist springmakers in almost every aspect of their business. Participating in them is the only way to obtain business data that pertains specifically to the spring industry.
Springs Advice and Metallurgical Services
SMI Technical Director Rick Gordon will respond to your metallurgical questions, such as those on fatigue life, corrosion problems and material related problems. He will manage and oversee processes for meeting your needs regarding failure analysis, to include sourcing reputable testing labs throughout North America.
SMI members receive two hours of Rick's time free of charge, after which his services are available for $200/hr. Nonmembers will be charged $300/hr. Rick can be reached at email@example.com, or 574-514-9367.
SMI Technical Advisor Gary Van Buren will be available to assist members with design and problem-solving issues, including spring design and technical consultation; respond to technical emails and phone calls; and assist in upgrading Advanced Spring Design software. If you are an SMI member or a company whose primary business is making springs, you are eligible to use the Technical Help Service free of charge. If springmaking is not your company's primary business, you may be charged a consulting fee to use this service.
